Is There A Correct Way To Make A Pagan Altar?
Should we collectively move on from the old altar guides?
When people become pagan, one of the first things they want to is to make an altar. This makes sense, especially in the age of the internet. In online pagan spaces, it is hard to scroll for long without running across photos of gorgeous altars. However, the desire to make an altar before you really know much else, is not a new thing. In the neopagan, especially Wiccan books, that were published in the 1990s, there was almost always a guide to how to make an altar. Since these books were mostly Wiccan, they were very prescriptive about how these altars must look, as Wicca has specific regulations on this subject. However, with Wicca decreasing in popularity, to the point of it comprising only a small minority of neopagans, should these guides be discarded, and what should replace them?
